Cob Repairs with The Cob Specialist
Undertaking specialist cob wall repairs in Cornwall must be approached with an understanding as to why the cob wall failed in the first place. There are many factors that can cause cob failure, primarily though, it’s because the cob has become saturated.

The Cob Specialist has seen too many cob walls have had an impermeable render cladding applied and this application can result in trapped moisture accumulating within the cob itself. Excessive moisture content [in the cob mass] can lead to saturation and ultimately failure.
Before introducing a cob block and/or cob brick repair by a cob specialist, it is essential to ensure that the existing cob mass is stabilised. Here, we are using acro-props to support the existing, high-level cob elements.
Cob block repairs and cob brick repairs to failed cob walls must achieve maximum stabilisation to the existing cob mass. This is realised by ensuring that the newly introduced cob products (by a cob specialist) are ‘snug’ against the existing cob. Lime mortar is applied between the cob blocks/cob bricks and the cob itself.
To ensure that the cob repairs are effective, the cob specialist introduces ‘slate packers’ where necessary. These provide a solid, tight-fitting cohesion between the repairs and the existing cob.
This particular cob in Cornwall project comprises of cob repairs by the cob specialist to the corner of a building. Not only have we used standard cob blocks and cob bricks, we also used these unique rounded cob blocks, curtesy of www.earthblocks.co.uk
